Logan’s Journey
“I’m so appreciative there is place like this. We all are. We’re here together, to help Logan, and Ronald McDonald House plays a big part in that, too.” – Danielle, RMHC Mom
Logan was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. At just 24 hours old, Logan had the first of multiple surgeries for his heart.
Logan’s parents, Danielle and Sean, recall how terrifying this time was for them. They also recall the comfort they found from an unexpected place. Living more than an hour away from the hospital, they found the support that they needed at Ronald McDonald House Morgantown–just steps away from their son’s care.
“The Ronald McDonald House was so much more than a bed to sleep in. We did not have to worry about the cost, and we could grab a quick meal. Anything we needed, the staff was there to help,” said Danielle. “This gave us peace of mind and we could focus on Logan.”
After a month in the hospital, the first-time parents brought their son home, only to return a few months later for his second surgery. Once again, Danielle and Sean found the comfort they needed at the Ronald McDonald House. They anticipated that this stay would be about a week long, however, Logan experienced complications due to contracting the Rhinovirus, resulting in a longer stay. The relief Danielle and Sean felt was indescribable, knowing that they could stay at the Ronald McDonald House for as long as they needed.
It has been nearly two years since Logan’s last surgery. Today, this very busy two-year-old enjoys playing baseball and swimming in his grandmother’s pool. He also shares his father’s love for bowling. You will find him every Tuesday cheering on his dad at the bowling alley.
Logan will undergo a third surgery in about a year. Danielle shared how reassuring it is to know that when this time comes, the Ronald McDonald House will be there for them once again.
“I’m so appreciative there is place like this,” said Danielle. “We all are. We’re here together, to help Logan, and Ronald McDonald House plays a big part in that, too.”
